The Sherbrooke association of tenants held a simultaneous protest and press conference on Wednesday during which they proposed the socialization of rental housing as a solution for what they called the on-going financial difficulties faced by renters in Quebec.
âThis year was the year with the second highest demand for housing aid. However, the housing shortage crisis is over,â said the associationâs spokesperson Normand Couture, explaining that vacancy rate of rental housing had surpassed 4 per cent. âThis means everyone could have access to housing. But this isnât the case.â
It seems the City of Sherbrooke wonât have to dig very deep into its pockets to deal with damage from tropical storm Irene.
Despite the flooding of the Saint-François River over night on Sunday, and resulting flooding of buildings including the public works garage on rue des Grandes-Fourches, the storm damage was not even extensive enough to warrant an official tabulation of associated expenses, according to municipal public relations representative Guylaine Hébert.

After wrapping up the textile industry, Townships businessman Blair McIntosh is taking on a charged challenge and heâs ready to give the industrial vehicle industry a boost.
Late last May, McIntosh purchased Bromptonville based Motrec, a company that designs and manufactures low speed industrial electric vehicles, designed to transport baggage, equipment, material and people.
Townships success
McIntoshâs success has relied to his adaptability, hard work and, like a good game of chess, making the right moves at the right time.
For many runners itâs hard enough to get the old bones (young buns?) moving for 10 kilometres in perfect conditions, let alone having to cope with allergies, which can make breathing difficult and turn a routine run into a torturous test of will.
