The Université de Sherbrooke and its union of support staff, SEESUS, have agreed on a new method of negotiations as a means to try and increase the chances of finding a resolution.
According to a joint statement released by both parties in the conflict, from now on only one âexternal resourcesâ person will be appointed by each party to undertake discussion in the conflict. âThis approach is intended to maximize the chances of arriving at a satisfying agreement for the two parties with the fewest delays,â the statement said.
The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont announced that Martin Belanger, 49, of Sherbrooke, was sentenced thursday in United States District Court in Rutland to time served in prison following his guilty plea to a charge of bank fraud. Chief U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss also ordered that Belanger serve a three-year term of supervised release and pay restitution in the amount of $86,004. Belanger has been incarcerated since his arrest last March 2.
While a number of CEGEPs in Quebec have already condemned the governmentâs recent announcement of a proposed additional budget âcompressionâ for the CEGEP system, Champlain Regional Collegeâs director general said he would wait and see what the exact amount of cuts would be before he passes judgment on the plans.
âHow that money is going to be divided, because itâs not coming out of operating budgets but from accumulated surpluses, is not yet known,â said director general Ken Robertson. âChamplain has really chosen to take a âletâs wait and seeâ stance.â

Townships artists Natanya Nerenberg and Tricia McDaid have pooled their talents once again in the second annual Thanksgiving Arts and Crafts Extravaganza in North Hatley this Saturday.
According to McDaid the event went âsurprisingly wellâ last year at its location off of Highway 143 prompting the close friends to try it again but in a more prominent location at 35 rue Main in North Hatley.
Sherbrookers can expect an increased police presence around crosswalks in the month of October.
To mark âpedestrian month,â the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) has launched its seventh annual âright foot, right eyeâ campaign which aims to educate the population about crosswalks and pedestrian safety in order to reduce the number of people hit by vehicles in the area each year.
This coming Thanksgiving weekend, turkeys will not be the only bird popular with human kind. In Danville, massive amounts of flighty creatures will again meet at a little pond named Burbank and rest awhile before making the long trip south.
There to greet them will be thousands of bird watchers and their own flocks to appreciate the annual migration and get a few camera shots to record the event.
âWe choose this weekend because it is the time when most of the migrating birds come in for a landing at the pond,â said organizer and bird watcher Gilles Lacroix.
A Sports Experts warehouse in the Carrefour de lâEstrie shopping centre was the subject of a massive theft of approximately $200,000 worth of merchandise over the weekend.
From bikes to clothes, the thief or thieves responsible for the crime stole countless items from the warehouse, which they entered by breaking through a metal door.
âApproximately $200,000 of merchandise was stolen,â said Sherbrooke Police Service representative RenĂ© Dubreuil. âWe still donât have the exact number put possibly even more than that.â
