A $16,800 parking tab for the farmers market

After a frustrating battle over parking, the merchants at Sherbrooke Marche de la Gare farmer's market and the City of Sherbrooke have come to an agreement that will still give shoppers a little bit of free parking.
Earlier this year The Record reported the City’s intention to eliminate the free hour of parking in order to recoup the cost of the new modern electronic payment terminals.

Sneaky blasting, mystery work

Monday afternoon during its monthly meeting, the Lennoxville borough council fielded a bevy of questions and comments from residents concerned with everything from blasting to mystery fence.

UdeS, administrative personnel come to deal

The Université de Sherbrooke has had better luck negotiating with its administrative personnel than with its support staff, as the Association of administrative and professional personnel (APAPUS) and the university settled on an agreement in principle Monday night.
After 18 months of discussions and negotiating the two parties reached an agreement on the renewal of the APAPUS collective agreement.

Sherbrooke museum tackles fall season with new energy

Chemistry, optical illusions, renewable energy and bugs are all on the menu for the fall program of the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science, unveiled on Tuesday morning.
“The science lectures and field trips offered by the museum are always fascinating, but the new youth component is particularly exciting,” said museum executive director Marie-Claude Bibeau in a press release. “The animators for this part of the schedule have all been recognized for the originality of their presentations, which have been conceived for a younger audience.”

Comic strips against violence

Monday afternoon three Massey Vanier High School students acted out a scenario representing bullying in the school environment, in order to promote the Comic Strips Against violence contest that opens October 3.
Under the title “Scribble against IntimiDation” students in Brome-Missisquoi, between 6 and 18 years of age, are being challenged to use cartoon art to promote their anti-violence message in black and white.

If you ever get a chance to listen to a symphony concert at the newly-constructed Montreal Symphony Orchestra hall, take the time to feel and admire the wood panelling that surrounds your seat. It was handled, shaped and built by the decicated craftsmen from Frost Flooring and Moulding, (Plancher et Moulures Frost Inc.) an Eastern Townships company here in Danville.
“It’s all done in beech wood,” said company owner Frederick Frost proudly. “That is the wood that best distributes the sound of the orchestra for every member of the audience, no matter where they are sitting.”

Load limit restricted on Coaticook bridge

The Minister of Transport has announced new load restrictions for trucks passing over the Lafond road bridge in Coaticook following an investigation of the structure.
According to a statement released by the minister single-unit trucks with loads exceeding 15 tons, tractor-trailers with loads exceeding 24 tons, and trucks with multiple trailers carrying loads exceeding 32 tons will now be forced to avoid taking the bridge, which crosses the Pont-Rouge river.
