The chefs de mission have been hard at work. Hailing from the 13 Canadian provinces and territories, the chefs de mission took a good, long look at the Sherbrooke Canada Games venues and sites. They evaluated the organization and planning along the way on their trip to Sherbrooke, which took place from May 13 to May 16.
The first trip to Quebec to ensure the planning stage was effected in May 2012 by the chefs de mission.
Mark Spicoluk is a big man in the Canadian music scene, and I don’t mean physically. The slim and athletic 33-year-old is already an industry whiz, not only as a musician, producer and writer but also for having an eye for talent when he sees it. Indeed, he’s been consumed by music ever since he can remember, notably having worked recently for Universal Music Canada and Gene Simmons’ new record label.
Amazingly, for the past 17 years he’s also followed a dedicated fitness regime.
Spring has finally arrived in Sherbrooke, albeit five days later than scheduled, with the opening of the Sherbrooke Expos season this weekend. The Expos will open their 2013 Quebec Senior Elite Baseball League campaign on Friday night as they visit the Thetford Mines Blue Sox. First pitch against the defending league champions is set for 8 p.m.
The Expos’ home opener is set for Sunday evening, as they host the Montreal Orioles at 7 p.m. at the Amedée Roy stadium.
More than 125 enthusiastic cyclists braved the rain to ride in silence through the streets of Sherbrooke, to the Marché de la Gare as part of the Ride of Silence commemorating cycling deaths. Sherbrooke municipal Councillor and Sherbrooke Transit Society President Marc Denault gave a short speech after cycling the full 10-kilometre course in the pouring rain.
Sutton taxpayers are questioning a hastily proposed $4-million town hall renovation on the heels of skyrocketing municipal taxes and escalating operating costs for the town.
The question is not whether or not to renovate - most agree work is required. It’s the scope of the plan and the manner it is being presented that has taxpayers worried.
Students and staff at Sherbrooke Elementary School got a scare Wednesday afternoon as the Sherbrooke Police carried out an investigation in the area around the school. The police were called in after two separate students approached supervisors at lunch-hour saying that they saw a suspicious looking individual near the school. The school’s administration contacted the police and opted to secure the building for the remainder of the afternoon as the SPS carried out their investigation.

They will be playing a traditional folk dance in Waterville on tonight (May 17) along with local musicians Nicholas Williams and Alex Kehler. On Saturday, Twelfth Day will play a concert at La Caravane in North Hatley.
