LEK ‘fragrances’ continue to raise a stink

LEK Inc. has come under fire recently over persistent complaints from residents of “foul” or “offensive” odours that continue to emanate from its facility.
The chemical processing plant, situated in downtown Knowlton, manufactures personal care products such as soaps, hand sanitizers, lotions and deodorant sticks.
“Again, for the third morning in a row on Wednesday [May 8], I was awakened by the smell of chemicals emanating from the cosmetics and personal care factory of LEK,” said Margo Pfeiff of Knowlton, in part.

New TBL ecocentre draws a crowd

Town of Brome Lake’s new ecocentre on 50 Mill Road, in Bondville, drew quite a crowd last Saturday. At times , there was a 1-kilometre line of vehicles waiting one to two hours to dispose of waste.

An ecocentre is a secure sorting centre where residents can dispose of their waste for free. You need a piece of photo identification and proof of residence within Brome-Missisquoi in order to use any of the ecocentres.

Burmese art exhibit to be held in Knowlton

Five volunteers are doing last minute preparations for their teaching assignments in Thailand, as part of the Mae Sot Education Project.
“I am excited more and more each day about heading to Mae Sot, especially now that my departure date is less than a month away,” said William Bryson, one of the volunteers. “We leave on June 5. This will be my first time in Thailand.”

Local businessman makes generous donation

Michael Herman of Turkey Hill Sugar Bush recently made a very generous donation to two local schools that is making a huge difference for our children. He donated a pottery kiln each to Waterloo Elementary and Knowlton Academy.

Twenty-fourth annual ETSB elementary school math competition

On May 10, Waterloo Elementary School hosted the 24th annual Grade 2-3 math competition. This is a fun day for the students with the questions designed to make everyone think outside of the box! Nineteen teams of four students each representing schools from across the wide expanse of the Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB) arrived at Waterloo Elementary with pencils, erasers and calculators in hand. After being welcomed by their team host and receiving a welcome snack, the day began.
