Inventory of swimming pools still not done

Recently the Town of Brome Lake issued a notice on its website calling for residents to conserve drinking water as a result of a drop in the water level at the Spring Hill reservoir.
“We got a low level warning message from the Spring Hill reservoir on Thursday of this week [May 9],” said TBL engineer Carl Fiset. “We immediately sent an info letter on our website, as well as putting on the water restriction signs. The water level kept dropping with the hot sunny weather we had the past two weeks.”

Special TBL council meeting May 15

At the Brome Lake special council meeting held May 15 at Centre Lac-Brome, council announced its intention to borrow $742,000 for the repair and reconstruction of sidewalks in TBL. Most of the sidewalk repair work would be done in Knowlton where most of the sidewalks are located.
Residents opposed to the borrowing bylaw can sign the register on May 24 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Centre Lac-Brome, said Mayor Gilles Decelles. In its 2013 budget unveiled in Dec. 2012, council had said it would borrow $600,000 for the repair of sidewalks.

Many young ladies dream of one day becoming Miss Universe Canada. One Eastern Townships girl, Lara Marsh-Mackenzie, is well on her way to turning that dream into a reality. The winner of the Miss Universe Canada pageant will go on to represent Canada in the International Miss Universe competition later this year.
Hundreds of young women entered regional tryouts across Canada competing to be one of 60 national finalists. Marsh-Mackenzie impressed the judges with her charm, poise and most notably her advocacy for cruelty-free living and encouraging others to live a healthy lifestyle.

LEK ‘fragrances’ continue to raise a stink

LEK Inc. has come under fire recently over persistent complaints from residents of “foul” or “offensive” odours that continue to emanate from its facility.
The chemical processing plant, situated in downtown Knowlton, manufactures personal care products such as soaps, hand sanitizers, lotions and deodorant sticks.
“Again, for the third morning in a row on Wednesday [May 8], I was awakened by the smell of chemicals emanating from the cosmetics and personal care factory of LEK,” said Margo Pfeiff of Knowlton, in part.
