Tuesday’s city council meeting featured the review of a committee report by the Commission Sherbrookoise des activitĂ©s municipales (CSAM) regarding Hydro-Sherbrooke. The goal of the committee was to evaluate the operation of Hydro-Sherbrooke, and maximize the benefits for the community. According to David Price, Lennoxville Borough President, and committee member, no stone was left unturned. Price said all avenues were explored concerning the evolution of the needs of Sherbrooke following the fusion, as well as new renewable energy sources and technology that should be considered.

Bank robbery at Ayer’s Cliff

Another armed bank robbery has occurred in the region as a daring heist took place Tuesday afternoon on Main Street in Ayer’s Cliff and police are still searching for the perpetrator.
At around 1:30, the suspect arrived on foot at the local CIBC branch and went directly behind the counter to the cash drawer, displaying a knife. After helping himself to an undetermined amount of cash, he left the scene and got into a car, fleeing down Browns Hill Rd.
The suspect is a French-speaking white male, about 20 years old, of medium height and build.

La Poutine Press: Parody pastiche pamphlets

The Lennoxville young community is hard at work. Meet Sébastien Corriveau and Geoff Meugens, two young men dedicated to the Poutine Press, a not-for-profit group that releases editions relating to everything under the sun.
“We write what we feel we need to write,” postulates Corriveau sitting at the Tierra del Fuego kitchen table littered with bits of newspaper articles, cut-out magazines, glue and pens. “We are currently working on a Survival guide for the summer for the spring edition. We’re going with Home Is Where the Fire Is Not,”,he says chortling.

La Pommeraie honours ‘exceptional’ volunteer

As part of an evening at the Welcome Centre in Cowansville that also featured the Annual General Meeting of the Users Committee, representatives of the CSSS La Pommeraie paid homage to an exceptional volunteer, Larry Goyette.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Michel Lafrance, Director General, Bruno Petrucci, and users’ committee chair, Pauline Mercier, took turns praising Goyette, a 53-year community volunteer, and recipient of the Governor General’s Award.

House fire leads to pot arrest

On Monday afternoon around 1:30, the SĂ»retĂ© du QuĂ©bec were called to assist firefighters at a house fire on de la Falaise St. in St-Armand. Despite responders’ best efforts, the fire consumed the entire building leaving it a total loss.
Meanwhile, cannabis plants were discovered in the basement. The SQ investigators conducted a search at the end of the day and seized 270 plants and equipment related to the production of cannabis. 400 contraband cigarettes were also seized at the scene.

‘École Du Baluchon’ Annual Bottle Drive Fundraiser in Potton

Until May 25, the “Ecole du Baluchon” in Mansonville will be holding its Annual Bottle Drive Fundraiser in Potton. Deposit sites have been established throughout the community for the convenience of all who wish to donate cans or bottles to benefit the school.

Minor injuries in Cookshire head-on

Two drivers escaped serious injury after a head on collision on route 108 near Cookshire early Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred around noon close to the intersection with Harvey Rd when the driver of an east-bound pick-up made a left turn to enter the parking lot of a restaurant. He apparently did not see the SUV heading towards him in the opposite direction.
The SUV was unable to avoid colliding with the truck and subsequently rolled over several times. Both drivers escaped with only minor injuries.

Windsor in shock

A suspicious fire completely gutted Windsor’s St-Philippe church, Sunday morning, leaving residents angry and in shock.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in the sacristy and quickly spread throughout the imposing St-Georges St. church, which is a total loss.

Sutton taxpayers appreciate opportunity to ask questions

Sutton Mayor Pierre Pelland held an information session on Saturday, May 18 to discuss the contentious $4 million renovation plan for the town hall. Over 100 citizens were in attendance, and while many expressed appreciation for the information meeting, it also left many feeling uneasy about what seemed more like a sales pitch than an information session.
