CNESST: Cold weather raises work-related risks

The CNESST is reminding employers and workers of the dangers associated with working outside in the extreme cold. “No one can control the temperature, but preventive measures for working outside in cold weather, that we can control,” a press release says.
Cold weather work poses a number of risks to the health and safety of workers, who can suffer from frostbite and hypothermia which, in the most severe cases, can lead to permanent physical damage such as amputation or even death.
Between 2012 and 2016 in Quebec, 95 workers suffered a cold-related injury and workplaces are responsible for taking the necessary steps to prevent hazards.
It’s important to recognize signs of cold weather issues before they cause injury. In addition, it is essential to know what measures to take to protect oneself from the cold and what to do in case of emergency.
