The Gaiters basketball seasons came to an end Saturday as both the men’s and women’s teams lost their final games of the season in Montreal, bringing both of the teams’ final records to 2-14 on the season.
The Men’s team was led by Abdul Kamane with 17 points in a 78-69 loss to the Citadins. Jona Bermillo scored 13 points in his final game as a Gaiter. UQAM was led by Yassin Debache who put up 21 points and hauled in 12 rebounds.
Head coach Rod Gilpin’s Gaiters struggled to stay healthy for much of the year with injuries taking a toll on the lineup. The team finished with two less wins than last year after going 4-12 in 2015-2016.
The Women’s team was led by Ashley Milhomme who had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 62-56 loss. The Gaiters were ahead in the first half with a 34-24 lead after two quarters, UQAM eventually came back thanks to an upswing in offence from Jessica Lubin who scored 13 of her 19 total points in the back half of the game.
Edith Noblecilla, Milhomme and Mara Marchizotti led the team in scoring this year. They each averaged 11.3, 11.2 and 10.7 points per game respectively.
The Women’s team made strides this year improving in all aspects under head coach Craig Norman. The Gaiters finished with two wins on the season. After having gone winless the past three seasons with an overall record of 0-48.
