Lennoxville precedes Canada Reads

Since 2002, the Lennoxville Library has been holding a foreshadowing event, introducing local readers to the books that will be featured in the CBC Canada Reads competition. This year’s Lennoxville Reads, looking for ‘One book to open your eyes’, will take place Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Lennoxville Library, 101 Queen Street. The CBC event will happen two weeks later, between March 26-29, with celebrity panelists debating the merits of their chosen book. The panelists include Mozhdah Jamalzadah defending The Boat People by Sharon Bala, Tahmoh Penikett defending American War by Omar El Akkad, Greg Johnson defending Precious Cargo by Craig Davidson, Jeanne Beker defending Forgiveness by Mark Sakamoto and Jully Black, defending The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline. Playing the roles of CBC’s panelists here in Lennoxville will be locals Jen Cianca, Jocelyne Vlais, Melanie Cutting, Janet Angrave and Ken Tomlin. According to Judy Keenan, one of the organizers, it’s not necessary for members of the public to have any knowledge of the books that will be discussed. The goal is for the five presenters to convince those in attendance to choose the book their defending as their next read. See full story in the Monday, March 5th edition of The Record.
