A new approach to veterinary medicine can be found in an old New England style house on Main Street in Ayer’s Cliff.
At the Eastern Townships Holistic Veterinary Office, animals receive highly personalized care through Dr. Anne-Marie Gagnon’s holistic approach. Since the opening of her office in 2006, Dr. Gagnon (DVM) has been successfully treating dogs and cats with a combination of methods, based on both alternative and conventional medicine. These methods include the use of acupuncture, herbs, homeopathy, osteopathy, as well as conventional when deemed necessary. “The focus is to take care of every aspect of the animal, the physical, the emotional, the psychological, the energies of the animal and its relationship with the guardian,” says Dr. Gagnon. As opposed to the conventional approach that focuses on illness as being isolated only to the affected animal’s physical body, the holistic one sees the animal as a whole being. The holistic approach focuses on activating the animal’s innate healing abilities and deals with the cause of the ailment rather than the symptoms. The Awakening Gagnon began her journey towards practicing holistic medicine in 1997. She had been a veterinarian and an associate working at a clinic for many years, when she started to realize something was seriously wrong with the health of the animals she was treating.
