Pintsized pines for refugees |

Christmas Wish Tree Bishop’s University students Amanda Hamel and Tegan Maharaj have come up with a festive way to support both a great cause and a local business, by selling Christmas trees.
The initiative called “Christmas Wish Tree” offers two-foot high trees for $10 each. These pintsized pines make charming gifts and are the perfect size for apartments, and ideal for those who don’t want the work of a bigger tree but do want some holiday cheer. Each purchase will contribute $4 to helping the refugee-students sponsored this year. The remaining $6 goes to Amanda-Joe Plantations a Christmas tree farm, near Eaton Corner, that is owned by Hamels parents, Leo and Bernie. Maharaj credits Hamel with the idea of selling a line of small trees her family makes for the benefit of the Bishop’s/Champlain Refugee Student Sponsorship Committee. The program, Maharaj is involved with, annually sponsors two young refugees as students each at Champlain and Bishop’s.
