Last year, the safety of Quebec’s fine cheeses was put in doubt with the discovery of a listeria bacterium in 11 products, which caused two deaths, 13 premature births and 25 general illnesses.

But this past weekend, the scare seemed to be have disappeared when the 15th edition of the Warwick Cheese festival saw a record crowd of 40,000 show up to sample and buy an estimated one ton of fromage with no questions asked.
“Of all the people who came to sample and buy our cheeses, not one asked about the listeria problem,” said Etienne L`Etoile, a vendor and consultant for the Ferme Jean-Noel Groleau Inc. of Compton.
