Mayor, Marois hold ‘private meeting’ E-mail

With the Parti Québecois caucus meetings scheduled for today and Thursday at the Chéribourg hotel in Orford, Pauline Marois, head of the Parti Québecois and MNA for Charlevoix, took the opportunity to meet with some of the area’s leaders on Tuesday.

Sherbrooke mayor Bernard Sévigny met with Marois at around 8:30 a.m. at city hall. A spokesperson from the Sherbrooke mayor’s office said that the meeting, while private, was simply a friendly encounter to discuss they mayor’s first few months in office, the state of the region, and things of that nature.
Later that morning, Marois visited the Université de Sherbrooke to meet with Luce Samoisette, rector at UdeS. The official leader of the opposition at the Assemblée Nationale also took the opportunity to meet members of the university’s student federation.
In the afternoon, Marois was also scheduled to have a private meeting with Magog’s mayor, Vicki May Hamm.
Tuesday featured a number of Parti Québecois members taking advantage of being in the region. Many toured the Eastern Townships, meeting with local organizations and businesses.
A member of Bernard Sévigny’s mayoral cabinet, Etienne Vezina, previously worked as a spokesperson for Bloc Québecois MP France Bonsant (Compton-Stanstead). Shortly after being elected in November, Sévigny appointed Vezina as his cabinet director.
Sévigny has never publicly made known his political affiliation.
