Mine in South Stukely ‘unlikely’; But company filed a claim |

A Toronto-based mineral exploration company announced Monday that it has filed a claim on a prospect property in South Stukely.
According to The Wall Street Journal’s Market Watch, Western Troy Capital Resources Inc. is interested in the Townships site. “There’s an indication that there might be something there,” said Western Troy president Rex Loesby to The Record in a brief interview. “But prospects like that are one out of 10,000 that it might make it into a mine… it’s very unlikely,” he added. In 1990 a Quebec government field crew took several grab samples which showed traces of copper and molybdenum, according to Market Watch. It stated that Western Troy had since returned to the site, but was unable to conduct a thorough investigation due to heavy snow fall. It is thus speculating based on historical data. Wayne Holmstead, the vice president of exploration for Western Troy, confirmed that the company had only staked a claim to the property. “We have not taken any samples ourselves,” explained Holmstead. The vp said he was reluctant to speak any further on the subject due to what he said was bad press that the mining industry has been receiving in local press near its exploration sites. Joanne Laperriere of the Town of South Stukely found no records of the company’s presence, but said that other mining companies had taken grab samples from properties in the area. The site in South Stukely is 60.5 hectares, and 3 km north of the town. It is one of six prospective sites that Western Troy has staked claims to in Quebec, and extensive mining exploration has already been conducted in its MacLeod Lake Molybdenum/Copper Project, located approximately 275 kilometers north of Chibougamau. The shares of Western Troy trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol WRY, with 19,550,970 shares outstanding. Officials at the mining division of the Quebec ministry of natural resources did not respond to requests for further information by the The Record’s deadline.
