By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – Brome Lake and Bishop’s University’s own Tyler Murphy and Robert McGovern have been selected to be members of Team Quebec for the USA Sevens Rugby international tournament held in Las Vegas on March 1-3, 2019. This will be their first time representing the province together. Murphy and McGovern share a vibrant dynamic on and off the field, one that often resonates in childhood friendships. Both originally from Brome Lake, the two 25-year-olds attended Massey-Vanier Regional High School together and have been playing in the same club and varsity teams for five years. “Robert is actually the one who convinced me to go out and play for our local club, the Brome Lake Ducks, about five years ago,” recalled Murphy. “That’s where I learned how to play rugby and it pushed me to join the Bishop’s team.” Murphy, the Gaiters’ number eight, led his team this season with a total of 52 points in four games, racking up three tries, eight conversions, and seven penalty kicks.
