By Matthew McCully – While almost all eyes were on the sporting events at the provincials and Special Olympics taking place in the region over the weekend, Dr. Suzanne Banfill, from Cookshire, headed to Edmonton, Alberta to compete in the Canadian Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships. The 45-year-old mother of five, who recently decided to get back into track, came home with three gold medals and one silver. That makes two national level track athletes in one family. Banfill’s daughter Ashley Sylvester competed last summer in the Legion Youth National Competition in Brandon, Manitoba. With only 15 months of training in track events, she brought home a bronze medal in the hammer throw, as well as a fifth place finish in discus and seventh place in shot put.
