The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was public figures with personal opinions.

Having an opinion and sharing that opinion are two very different things.
The former is automatic: all people have opinions about the things of which they are aware. They may or may not be very strong, but they exist.
Sharing an opinion is always a choice and has some motivation behind it. What makes up your opinion gets informed by your experience and your outlook on life, but it is your choice whether anyone else gets to know what you think and why.
Because of that, it’s important to take care when someone shares their opinion in a public forum. How big is their soap box and with whom they are choosing to share their thoughts?
I’m really not an “everyone is out to get you” kind of person, but I think we could all afford to be more careful when it comes to opinions.
