On Wednesday, Stanstead residents were notified by the town that a bear and her three cubs were seen roaming around Sunnyside Elementary School in the early hours of the morning.
While they were likely searching for one of Yogi Bear’s coveted ‘pic-a-nic baskets,’ Mayor Jody Stone told The Record that the bears were docile and keeping to themselves. The sighting was first brought to his attention by the town’s general manager, Jean-Charles Bellemare.
“I haven’t seen them personally. It was the general manager when he came in the morning, because basically Sunnyside School is right beside the Town Hall, so when he went to park the bears were right beside the Stanstead Town Hall parking lot,” Stone said in a phone interview.
