A busy time at the board

“Last month was an exciting one,” commented Eastern Townships School Board Chairman Michael Murray in the opening of his monthly report during Tuesday’s council of commissioners meeting. With the tabling of Bill 40 and the incident last week at Galt that sparked a student demonstration, a lot of local eyes are on the ETSB looking for action on both fronts. While under the microscope, the board has one good thing going for it- a clean audit report. The report was presented by the board’s independent auditing firm, and tabled as a clean report with no major issues or miscalculations. Last week at Galt a male student allegedly threatened a female student with a knife. The incident, by way of the alleged victim and her mother, reached the media and prompted a student demonstration where between 60-80 students gathered at the front gate of Galt, chanting ‘make school safe.’ See full story in the Thursday, Oct. 24 edition of The Record.
