A community fondly remembers Smith

As condolences and memories of Garth Smith flood social media, there was one constant theme in the messages, Smith was a class act.
Garth Smith, a true ambassador for Bishop’s University and the Lennoxville community who passed away Wednesday, was the last link to the Gaiters of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, a successful athlete, coach and teacher who above all represented the university in the finest manner. Garth came to Bishop’s in 1954 to be the women’s basketball coach and that position developed into an extensive career of 38 years at the university. During his years at Bishop’s, Garth held many positions including Assistant Director of Athletics, Intramural Director, Intercollegiate Coordinator, and Head Golf Professional of the Old Lennoxville Golf Course.
