The Sherbrooke provincial riding is distinct compared to all the other Eastern Townships electoral districts in that it is composed just of the Des Nations borough of the city of Sherbrooke. Not only is it made up almost entirely of urban area, but it is also the only riding in the region to cover only part of one municipality rather than a number of rural communities.
Like neighbouring Saint-François, the riding has changed political hands several times in the last ten years. The former seat of then-premier Jean Charest fell to the Parti-Quebecois in 2012 before returning to Liberal hands in 2014. Quebec solidaire’s Christine Labrie is the incumbent in the riding in this election, having beaten out former Liberal cabinet minister Luc Fortin in the 2018 election.
