A Princess Elizabeth dream come true

By Matthew McCully

Local branch members of the Lion’s Club stopped by Princess Elizabeth Elementary School (PEES) Thursday morning to deliver a donation of $5,000, helping the school reach its fundraising goal for the construction of a ‘green classroom’. Work will begin for the new garden pavilion this spring. The original idea for the outdoor classroom came from Community Learning Centre Coordinator Pervana Mladenof. For years, Mladenof had been planning and fundraising for an outdoor classroom, an extension of the school’s already substantial garden, but she passed away in June of last year before the project would be completed.
The school decided to continue with Mladenof’s plan and complete the green classroom in her honour. “That was her wish,” explained daycare worker Dominique Roy, who worked closely with Mladenof over the years. “She said I want my garden, I want my gazebo-I said, I’m on it!” A fundraising event was held in September under the name ‘Everything Starts with a Dream’.
