A road by any other name: Decision to rename road after David “Butch” Crack stirs the pot in Cleveland

An effort by the municipality to honour a well-respected member of the Cleveland community has stirred up some debate in recent days. While underlining the fact that they fully support honouring the memory of local farmer David Crack, who died of cancer last year, Cleveland residents Léo Gaudet and Louis-Philippe Hébert have both made public statements criticizing the decision to rename Chemin de la Riviere.
On Tuesday Gaudet, speaking as President of the Richmond County Historical Society (RCHS), published a statement on the group’s Facebook page criticizing the municipality for making the decision without properly consulting its citizens and calling the decision to name a street after a person “pathetic” and outdated.
