This Saturday, Action Saint-François, an environmental organization in the Eastern Townships, is inviting locals to come out and do a little something for the region’s waterways by participating in the first clean-up activity of the season.
The group organizes clean-up activities in local waterways every Saturday morning during the summer.
The cleanups will officially begin on April 23 and end in October 2022.
Over time, Action Saint-François said it is incredible what has been pulled from waterways; everything from carcasses, appliances, tires, glass, cans, etc. In addition to concrete actions such as the weekend cleanups, the organization believes it is imperative to raise awareness and educate the population on the consequences of waste materials (metal, plastic, glass, tires, garbage and others) in our waterways.
Years ago, the organization made a commitment to take care of, clean and protect the water in the Eastern Townships. And to achieve this goal, the collaboration of citizens is essential.
Anyone interested in participating in the upcoming cleanup should meet at the Grenouillère parking lot, behind Wellington Street North in Sherbrooke, at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Action Saint-François will offer carpooling to the site where the cleanup will take place, and return to the Grenouillère parking lot around noon.
Participants should wear long-sleeved clothing, long pants, a hat and rubber boots, and bring a water bottle and a snack if desired. Action Saint-François will provide gloves, tools, bags and a fun atmosphere.
Because the cleanup is taking place along waterways, children 12 to 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult, and children under 11 years old are not permitted to attend.
