Active cases back up over 5,000 in Quebec

The Province of Quebec reported 644 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of people infected to 417,832 and the number of active cases across the province back up over 5,000 to 5,114.
There were two new deaths recorded, for a total of 11,431 since the start of the pandemic.
Hospitalizations remained stable compared to the previous day, at 298, but that was as a result of 30 new entries and 30 new discharges. The number of people in intensive care, meanwhile, increased by one (5 new entries and 4 new discharges) for a total of 76.
In the Eastern Townships the number of active cases increased to 261, 138 of which were split evenly between Sherbrooke and the Haute-Yamaska region. The situation in the Des Sources cluster remained largely unchanged from the previous day.
There were nine people in hospital for Covid in the region on Thursday, one of whom was in intensive care.
The next detailed update on the situation in the Townships is expected Friday morning alongside information on changes to staffing and services anticipated as a result of the mandatory vaccine mandate in the healthcare network.
