An emotional end of year for the ETSB

By Matthew McCully – The Eastern Townships School Board Council of Commissioners held its last meeting of the year before breaking for the summer. On top of its daily responsibilities, over the last school year the board wrapped up the school fees class action suit, braced itself for a defense against the new CAQ government’s plan to replace school boards with service centres, juggled senior board positions to accommodate the abrupt departure of Director General Kandy Mackey, currently on leave, and still finished the year on a high note with news that the request for a new school in Drummondville had been approved. Interim Director General Michel Soucy, who usually skips the DG report during meetings, told the board how proud he was of what the ETSB had accomplished this year. Soucy took the time to name and personally thank each board member that took on additional responsibilities during the year.
“My only regret,” Soucy said, was that Mackey was not there to share the board’s successes this year. See full story in the Thursday, June 27 edition of The Record.
