The “Tour of Courage,” the Sherbrooke to Boucherville leg of the annual Charles Bruneau bike tour for children’s cancers, left the Fleurimont hospital of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS on Thursday morning bound for their day-one end point of Bromont. By the end of the day today, the 35 cyclists will have pedaled 300 km to the end point in Boucherville where they will meet up with some 850 others who left on other routes of the tour across the province at various points since Tuesday. “The kind of courage shown by the children who are treated here at the Charles Bruneau pediatric oncology unit of the Fleurimont hospital and at home every day cannot be forgotten,” Rémi Brassard, deputy general manager of social and rehabilitation programs for the CIUSSS, praising the fact that the support of the Charles-Bruneau Foundation allowed the Fleurimont hospital to become one of only four establishments in the province to be able to offer specialized cancer care to children. “We are spoiled to have such a centre here in the Eastern Townships, which covers not only this region but also part of the Monteregie and central Quebec regions.” See full story in the Friday, July 5 edition of The Record.
