Another seven cases at Lambton home

Record Staff

Following the news last week that two members of the staff at the long term care home (CHSLD) in Lambton had tested positive for Covid-19, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS announced another five positive cases among the residents and a further two among the staff. This brings the total number of cases in the small home to nine.
To ensure the safety of the sick residents as well as other residents and staff members of the facility, the the five residents who tested positive have been transferred to the hot zone of the Sherbrooke containment center.
“We understand that this transfer is difficult to accept and creates anxiety among the families of these five residents, but we assure them that it is the safest decision for their loved ones”, explained Sylvie Quenneville, deputy director of the network’s program to support the autonomy of the elderly.
CIUSSS officials referred to the transfer to as the optimal clinical choice for the five residents concerned, but also for the population of the Granit MRC, so as not to further weaken the already precarious situation with regard to the resources available in this sector.
Public Health investigations are underway to trace the chain of close contacts for each of the new positive cases to isolate those at moderate or high risk. Contacts who are not judged to be at moderate or high risk are still encouraged to monitor their state of health and get tested.
All measures are in place at the Lambton CHSLD to closely monitor the environment and prevent further spread and the CIUSSS intends to provide regular updates on the situation over the coming days.
