On Saturday night the upper hall of Lennoxville United Church was packed with people who shared a common goal; to brighten up a cold January with a little fun. Having been started in 2011 by Bruce Patton, Ann Maher, and Nancy Suitor, the annual “Chase Away the Winter Blues” talent show was another big success in its eighth year. “There’s not a lot of things going on in the Eastern Townships in January,” Suitor told The Record on Sunday. “It’s dark and it’s cold, so the idea came out of that.” Although many church events end up being fundraisers in one capacity or another, the organizer said that the goal of “Chase Away the Winter Blues” was only ever to do what the name says, by bringing people together. Helped by a team of volunteers and community support, the show continues to fulfill its mission year after year. See full story in the Monday, Jan. 28 edition of The Record.
