The “Sauvons le manège” group that has been active over the last two years in trying to save the city of Sherbrooke’s two armoury buildings from the wrecking ball has raised its voice again this week to express concern that the Department of National Defence may have made up its mind to get rid of the buildings without ever directly responding to the group’s fears.
Retired Brigadier-General Jean-Luc Bombardier, Former Commander of the Reserve Forces in Quebec, former Commander of the Fusiliers de Sherbrooke reserve unit, and spokesperson for the advocacy group referred to “persistent rumours,” that despite a public consultation process earlier in the year the fate of the buildings is sealed, and they criticized the possibility as a move backwards for armed forces recruitment.
