Banque Nationale refuses memorial wreath

Members of the Canadian Legion Branch 15 in Richmond are surprised and frustrated at the news that the Banque Nationale has refused to purchase and display the traditional Armistice Memorial wreath. The news spread rapidly from the Poppy Fund Campaign Manager John Hill to acting President Hugh Lancaster, 2nd Vice president Debbie Johnston and the members in general.

According to the Legion membership, businesses and commerce in the community have traditionally supported the Poppy Campaign here since the project began. Funds raised are banked locally, at this bank, earmarked specifically to help out local veterans and their families in times of need.

“We have always taken our business to the Banque Nationale,” Hill said. “Actually the Legion here began doing business with the Bank of Montreal shortly after the end of WWII. When they became Banque Nationale, we kept the account with them too.”
