Beverly Taber Smith was honoured at Richmond’s Town Hall on Monday, Dec. 3 where mayor Bertrand Menard presented her with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. The medal, which recognizes the volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields, is given as a tribute to the dedication and exemplary commitment of volunteers. Candidates for the award must have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to their community through significant, sustained and unpaid contributions. The award is administered through the Chancellery of Honours, part of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General of Canada. Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
