By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – Marie-Claude Bibeau, Member of Parliament for Compton-Stanstead, was sworn in on March 1 as the new federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. The first woman to ever hold this role, Bibeau will be working hard in the next few weeks to become familiar with Canada’s agricultural issues. “I’m very proud of my new role,” she said in a phone interview with the Record. “I’m still surprised that I am the first woman to become the Minister of Agriculture, because women play such a big role in family farms. It’s a great feeling overall, and I hope that this encourages other women to consider careers in politics and agriculture.” See full story in the Friday, March 8 edition of The Record.
