Bishop’s sorority hosts car wash for women’s heart health

Thursday from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Lennoxville community members can treat themselves to a car wash by donation in support of Women’s Heart Health.
The event, hosted by Bishop’s Alpha Phi, will be held in the Hope Community Church parking lot. As a philanthropic organization, all funds raised from the car wash will be sent to the Alpha Phi Foundation, which funds research and educational programs that support the advancement of women’s heart health.
Annually, the Alpha Phi Foundation awards $100,000 to medical professionals to better understand heart disease in women. Each chapter of Alpha Phi hosts events each year to contribute not only to this grant, but to a number of other organizations committed to improving women’s heart health.
Savannah Godbout, the Vice President of Community Relations for the Bishop’s chapter of Alpha Phi has been working to create a number of COVID-19 safe events for the chapter to host through the year. Godbout admitted that it has been difficult planning events around the COVID-19 guidelines. “We had originally planned a different event but, with Covid, being inside and serving food was not a safe option for us,” she said. Each sorority member will be required to wear a mask and socially distance while partaking in the car wash.
Typically, the chapter hosts a number of community service events as well as one philanthropic event each semester. Godbout explained that, due to the guidelines, their regular service events have been adjusted. “We’ve started a pen-pal program with the Best Buddies in Lennoxville, hoping to beat the loneliness of isolation, and are hoping to get involved with other organizations in the community this year,” she explained. “In-person events are really all we’ve ever done, and it’s hard to get people to donate for an online event, so we’ve had to get creative,” she said.
