Students at Bishop’s University have constructed a mobile maple syrup production unit, enabling the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program to produce maple syrup on campus. As part of an experiential learning course for the program, four students presented and unveiled the final design of the mobile maple syrup production unit on the
Bishop’s University campus last Friday.
The Record spoke with Bruno Courtemanche, the faculty supervisor for the project, and Gabrielle Bourbeau, one of four students who worked on the project. Regarding the unit’s origins, Bourbeau, who is graduating at the end of the semester, explained, “We were tasked with building a place where [Bishop’s] could boil their maple syrup on campus. The reason we made it mobile was because of the rules around construction.”
