Michèle Gérin has decided to leave her role as executive director of Bleu Massawippi, a local organization fighting to preserve Lake Massawippi’s ecosystem, as well as protecting it from an invasive species known as zebra mussels, in September.
In a phone interview on Wednesday, the 63-year-old Gérin told The Record that the organization has expanded tremendously since she took over in 2009. And she feels as though this is the right moment to move aside, opening the door to new leadership and fresh solutions.
“Yes, it’s time for me. And it’s also time for Bleu Massawippi. The organization has grown a lot in the 13 years that I’ve been here. It has become wide-ranging. We have done a lot of things and I have the intention of leaving because we need to move forward in recovery,” she said.
