Border Curling Club hosts US visitors

The Border Curling Club in Beebe (Stanstead) Qc is situated a few feet from the US/Canada border and Derby Vermont. The Border club had the pleasure of hosting the Upper Valley Curling Club this past Saturday ,March 18.

The Upper Valley Curling Club has members from Vermont and New Hampshire in the Connecticut River Valley region. This club curls mostly on ‘Arena ice’. This means that the arena ice is shared with hockey and ice skaters. Curling time on arena ice is limited and with less than perfect ice conditions that a dedicated curling ice can offer.

This is why 19 members of the Upper Valley curlers drove two hours to Beebe for  excellent curling ice conditions with facilities to eat, talk curling and enjoy a few Canadian refreshments between games. The group enjoyed three games of drawing to the button and take out shots on the best curling ice in the area. We hope to welcome them back in the fall.

The Border Curling Club struggled during the pandemic as more than half of the members were American and could not cross the US/Canada border, but the club is making a comeback and activities such as this, helps our recovery.
