By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – In the course of its Equity and Pride Week activities, Bishop’s University inaugurated its long-awaited Indigenous Space. The event took place on Feb. 22 in the presence of local philanthropist Dian Cohen, who helped sponsor. Members of the Bishop’s Indigenous Cultural Alliance first made a request for such a gathering space in 2012. Located in Room 9 of the lower level of the Centennial Theatre building, it provides a space for all students to hang out, have lunch, do their homework, but also engage and reflect about Indigenous cultures in a meaningful way. It is also right next door to Melissa Poirier’s office. Poirier is the newly appointed Indigenous Student Support and Community Liaison Officer at the University.
