A car skidded off chemin Bartlett in Cookshire-Eaton late Thursday night resulting in the death of 19-year-old Simon Choquette, a Champlain student originally from Mont-Saint-Grégoire.

Another young male passenger is in hospital in critical condition.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) media representative Stéphane Tremblay told The Record on Sunday afternoon that to date there has been no change in his condition.

The call came in around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday about a car that had skidded violently off the road, according to Tremblay.

There were five passengers, all in their late teens/early 20s.

The driver and two other passengers suffered minor injuries, the SQ rep said.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident, but alcohol could have been a factor, Tremblay said. The driver was given a blood alcohol test, the results are expected in the coming weeks.
