By Matthew McCully

Police apprehended a man following a chase that ended at the corner of Routes 212 and 108 in Cookshire when the suspect, driving a stolen car, ran into a truck. A car belonging to an East Angus business had been reported stolen. At around 8:30 a.m. Sûreté du Québec received information that the vehicle was in the La Patrie area. It was later spotted on Route 212. SQ officers pursued the vehicle and laid a nail mat in the road which managed to slow the suspect but not stop him. Officers then backed off when the suspect began making erratic and dangerous maneuvres. He eventually collided with a truck near the intersection of Route 108 and was caught trying to run from the vehicle. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect, a 42-year-old Westbury man, had drugs in his possession, and had tossed a firearm from the vehicle during the chase, which was recovered by police. He could face charges of car theft, dangerous driving, drug possession and possession of a firearm.
