By Matthew McCully – On Wednesday afternoon the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Sherbrooke and District held its 27th annual public speaking competition. This year, 18 students from five local high schools (Massey-Vanier, Galt, Richmond Regional, Bishop’s College School and Stanstead College) participated in the competition. In addition to giving the students an opportunity to develop their public speaking skills, the competition offers the audience a glimpse into the lives of Townships youth and a look at issues they feel are most significant in the world today. And they had a lot to say. During the competition, this reporter wondered how the preoccupations of youth today would compare to the speeches read 27 years ago.
