Champlain Students to participate in suicide awareness walk

This coming Saturday, Champlain students will be participating in a suicide prevention and awareness walk which will take them through the center of Lennoxville. Starting at 1 p.m. at Bishop’s Optimist field, the walk will take the students up College Street with a possibility of going further, based on the number of participants.

The Record spoke with the organizer of the event, Jessie Sutherland, a second-year student in the special care counselling program. When asked where the idea came from, Sutherland replied, “Originally it was me who had the idea. I wanted to implement a project for newer students in special care counseling where they would pick a topic close to them and raise awareness on the subject.” After proposing this project to her instructors in the program and receiving positive feedback, Sutherland then began the planning for the Suicide Walk.
