Across the Townships daffodils are up almost a month earlier than usual this year, thanks in large part to an early burst of warm weather, but things aren’t quite as sunny in the Hatley common as Loni Campbell was expecting.
“It’s not what I had hoped,” the resident said, estimating that somewhere between only a quarter and a third of the 1,000 daffodil bulbs she donated to the community in the fall of 2015 have bloomed. “The daffodils are not doing what I had hoped and prayed they would do, which is spread out and be more every year.”
While commenting that she’s “more of a painter than a gardener,” Campbell said that she had been inspired by a love of flowers and the experience of seeing parks full of daffodils in England during a year in London that originally inspired the donation.
