As summer tourism season heats up, the association overseeing Magog’s Cherry River Marsh is asking the public to think more about the environmental impacts of their actions. In a notice issued in late June, the Association du Marais-de-la-Rivière-aux-Cerises shared that the summer of 2021 saw significantly higher number of kayak and paddleboard users than usual on the marsh’s waterways.
On busy days, it was not uncommon to observe nearly 150 boats at the same time on the narrow Cherry River, although it does not have the physical characteristics to accommodate such a large number of boaters,” the notice reads, indicating that there were noticeable impacts of the increased traffic on local plant and animal life.
