Christmas basket campaigns underway in the Eastern Townships

Municipalities in the Eastern Townships are busy preparing for their upcoming Christmas basket campaigns, which needed to be modified due to the ongoing pandemic.
The Centre d’action bénévole de la MRC de Coaticook (CAB) announced on Wednesday that its 2020 campaign officially kicks off on Nov. 16 and runs until Dec. 18. According to a press release, the CAB has already seen double the grocery requests compared to last year.
However, Coaticook residents can start signing up for the campaign starting Nov. 9. The deadline to fill out a Christmas basket form is Dec. 4, a CAB spokesperson told the The Record. They are predicting to hit 200 subscriptions this year.
In order to bring people Christmas baskets, the CAB has cancelled its annual food drive event due to health and safety measures imposed by Quebec’s public health authority. The organization plans to collect non-perishable foodstuffs through businesses and companies.
