Following a trend established by Quebec City aimed at helping to bring a little cheer into people’s lives during difficult times, the City of Sherbrooke will start putting up its downtown winter decorations as early as next week.
According to the press release issued by the city, the decoration process will take place over the course of three weeks, ending with the installation of the downtown Christmas tree. Usually lit up to great fanfare at the end of the Santa Claus Parade, which was cancelled this year to avoid creating a massive public gathering, the tree will make an appearance around November 20.
“This is a great initiative from Mayor Labeaume and I told him so,” said Sherbrooke Mayor Steve Lussier. “I invite other Quebec municipalities to do the same. In these difficult times, it is important to take the smallest actions that will do the greatest good.”
