When Legault came to Sherbrooke last March to announce his local candidates, he told Townshippers they would wake up on Oct. 2 with six new CAQ ridings.
He wasn’t far from the mark.
With the exception of Sherbrooke, the Townships ridings have turned CAQ blue.
In part of a province-wide sweep, the Coalition Avenir Québec has dismantled a half-century of two-party rule between Liberals and the Parti Québecois, winning a decisive majority government.
On a local level, the Townships has been a Liberal stronghold for decades, home of a former premier and several MNAs in key ministerial roles.
