Sherbrooke played its part in the global climate strikes that took place last Friday. While estimates vary from 5,000 to 10,000 participants, there is general agreement that the massive crowd, made up of demonstrators of all ages, was the largest demonstration the city has ever seen.
The climate strike movement was inspired by 16 year old Greta Thunberg, who captured global attention with her repeated calls for urgent action on climate change. Thunberg was in Montreal on Friday, where the crowd is estimated to have numbered around 500,000 people. Published in the Monday, Sept. 30 edition of The Record.
