The words “Independence Day,” tend to inspire an image of Americans barbecuing, waving flags, and setting off fireworks on the Fourth of July. Every year for the last 14 years, however, there has been an Independence Day celebration in Sherbrooke that has had nothing to do with the United States.
Every July, ColombiEstrie, an association representing the local Colombian community, organizes a festival to celebrate and share their culture in honour of Colombian Independence Day, which takes place on July 20. This year the party is set to take place this Saturday, July 27, at Sherbrooke’s Belvedere Park in the Ascot District. See full story in the Wednesday, July 24 edition of The Record.
